Hustler Casino in Gardena, California is gearing up for the Liz Flynt Spring Poker Classic. It begins today, April 21 with a $500,000 guaranteed, $350 buy-in tournament with 10 starting flights. The Spring Poker Classic promises more than $1 million in guarantees.
There is an unusual format to this starting event that, if it works, will amount to massive prize money for the winners. For starters, the tournament offers 10 starting flights to give ample time for hundreds of players to pay the $350 buy-in.
This re-entry tournament will then allow players to pick up as many flights as they like, paying the $350 again until they have a stack worth carrying on to Day 2 of the tournament, which will not begin until April 26.
And there is more: the tournament includes something Hustler casino calls “Quantum Reload,” a format that allows players to buy directly into Day 2. It’s a final shot – no late entry, and comes with the heftier buy-in of $2,700.
The percentage of top players that will advance to Day 2 varies for each day of starting flights. Mini-payouts will be given to players who made it in the top 11 percent of finishers in each starting flight but were not in the top eight or nine percent who move on to Day 2.
The complicated starting format could either become known as a confusing flop, or set a new record for the largest winning payout from a low buy-in tournament.
