Running from Nov. 14 through Nov. 24, the Merit Poker Gangster Poker Cup was a huge success. More than 450 players from around the globe converged on the Merit Crystal Cove Casino and Resort in North Cyprus to compete for what was initially scheduled to be $1 million in guaranteed money. When all was said and done, that guarantee was blown away, with more than $2 million ultimately being awarded.
The gangster-themed festival hosted 25 different events over the 11 days. The festival showcased two $2,200 Main Events that offered $350,000 each, a $5,000 High Roller tourney with more than $125,000 in prize money and a $1,100 Bounty 8Max Knock Out tourney with over $35,000 being awarded. Games were played non-stop, with stakes running from $2-$5, up to $100-$200.
In September, Merit held what it called the Retro 3 festival, which had guaranteed a prize pool of $2 million. It ultimately awarded over $3 million. That series offered a total of 30 events, including a $1,500 no-limit hold’em tournament with a prize pool of over $200,000 and a $10,000 no-limit hold’em 8Max with $250,000.
