After its last successful stop at the Meskwaki Bingo Casino for the Iowa State Poker Championship, the Mid-States Poker Tour is headed to the Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Club in Shakopee for the MSPT Regional Minnesota.
The tournament series at the Shakopee Card Club actually began more than a month ago with the first of several satellite events into the $100,000 guaranteed Main Event. Two satellite events, a $90 buy-in tournament offering a 20 percent advance into the main event and a $50 buy-in offering a 10 percent advance, take place today and tomorrow.
The $350 buy-in Main Event kicks off on August 8 with the first of four starting flights. It spans five days, with Day 2 of the event scheduled to begin on August 12. During the tournament, players will be allowed to re-enter only once per Main Event Flight.
The Main Event is expected to exceed its guarantee as the poker tournaments at Canterbury Park traditionally attract large crowds. The most recent MSPT stop at the Iowa State Poker Championship paid Main Event winner Brian Soja $94,568.
The stop was the tour’s 20th time at the Meskwaki Bingo Casino since 2012. It drew many regulars and tournament grinders from the region. The MSPT will return to Meskwaki in November for another $300,000 guaranteed event.
The next big MSPT tournament begins August 17 at the Tropicana Casino in Evansville, Indiana. The $1,100 buy-in Main Event, also known as the Indiana State Poker Championship, boasts a $250,000 guarantee.
