Anyone looking for a little poker action might want to consider a trip to Montana. In a little more than a month, the University of Montana will host its 12th annual Lady Griz Texas Hold’em Poker Tourney fundraiser. The event has been a successful way to raise money for the school’s scholarship assistance programs, as well as to support its female basketball team.
The $100 buy-in event will kick off at 12:00 PM at Paradise Falls in Missoula. While the prize pool has yet to be established, the first-place winner last year pocketed $2,000. Not a bad take for spending a little time playing poker and helping the school. In addition to the tournament, there will also be raffles available to attendees, offering thousands of dollars in prizes. Entry into the tournament can be purchased either at the casino or through the university.
The Lady Griz is the name affectionately given to the university’s female basketball team. It is an NCAA Division 1 team that competes in the Big Sky Conference. The team has had a successful career, being crowned conference champions more than 20 times. It has gotten off to a slow start under first-year coach Shannon Schweyen, currently recording only 14 wins out of 31 games, but will certainly make a rebound to its former glory.
