What was once known as Sutter’s, founded in 1929 and rebranded as Bay 101 in 1994, the newly reborn Bay 101 did away with its past in favor of a $53 million relocation and facelift, offering a completely modern look. The new Bay 101 is feng-shui certified and boasts of 68,000 square feet of floor space. New energy-efficient lights were installed along the wide hallways and offer mood-setting effects to appeal to visitors.
Along with the modernization, a hip Asian fusion restaurant, The Province, has been added and is set to open October 6. The Province is owned by restauranteurs that already have three eateries around the upscale Santana Row – Roots & Rye, Sino and Straits. The 5,000-square foot restaurant offers an inviting outdoor dining patio with fire pits, custom-designed tiles on the bar and hand-painted walls. The menu will offer a variety of Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine.
The vision is to turn North San Jose into a one-stop destination.
The new Bay 101 is in the first phase of a larger project that will boast of two hotels and 237,000 square-feet for a tech campus. An Embassy Suites hotel will be the first, with seven floors and 174 rooms.
