New York’s newest lineup of weekday poker tournaments begins today at Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady. After two months of a packed poker room, Rivers received approval from the New York State Gaming Commission last week. The schedule begins Mondays at 9:30 a.m.
The No Limit Hold’em poker tournaments will be held weekday mornings, Monday through Thursday, until the end of April. There will also be an additional No Limit Hold’em Re-Entry poker tournament on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Each of Rivers 15 tables can accommodate 10 players for daily tournaments.
The original idea behind the tournament schedule was to attract poker pros to Rivers during off hours, to help thin out the crowds during peak times. The one weekly evening tournament falls outside this original plan but offers a chance for players who cannot make it to the casino in the mornings.
Buy-ins for the weekday tournaments are $75, plus an additional $25 for No Limit Hold’em Bounty tournaments. Those will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The additional $25 is to cover the “bounty” that awards some extra prize money to the player who eliminates another player with a bounty.
The Rivers poker room is also offering a High Hand Jackpot, which will award players a payout for having a high hand six times per day. This promotion will run alongside the new weekday morning tournament schedule for the month of April. A new schedule and promotion will be announced for May near the end of the month.
