Oneida Nation Plans $50M Casino in New York

The Oneida Nation announced plans to build a new $50 million casino in New York. The casino will be their third in the state and could be completed as early as next spring. To be called Point Place, the casino will be located in the town of Bridgeport in Madison County.

Plans for Point Place include a 65,000-square-foot site with dining options, bars, 500 slot machines and 20 table games. The casino’s location was selected to for its proximity to key highways and roads, providing easy access for people in surrounding counties.

The location also places the casino in competition with one of the state’s new commercial casinos, del Lago Resort. If all goes as planned, the casino should be ready to open at about the same time as New York’s fourth and last new commercial casino property, Montreign Resort Casino in Thompson, Sullivan County.

The Oneida are also the operators of the Chittenango casino, Yellow Brick Road. The casino opened on June 2, 2015 with slot machines, a Keno lounge and a 500-seat bingo hall. Then in September last year they remodeled the bingo hall to make space for Las Vegas-style table games.

The change was well received by patrons and the Oneida hope to repeat the success at Point Place. They say the new casino will be inspired by Yellow Brick Road Casino, but with its own unique characteristics. The two casinos will be just 10 miles apart, leading many to question if the market is already saturated before Point Place breaks ground.
