PartyPoker is gearing up with promotions for its upcoming Summer Monster Series, but players noticed a discouraging difference compared to past events. The guaranteed prize pools are notably lower as the platform appears to be scaling back the tournaments this time around.
The reason behind the reduced guarantees is easy to see – PartyPoker’s last Monster Series suffered several overlays. The amount of money the platform had to pay to cover the tournaments forced them to come up with a new strategy.
The new strategy for the series to diversify the tournament offerings while simultaneously reducing the platform’s total financial commitment. The result is a lot of low guarantees. While PartyPoker slashed the total guaranteed prize pools from $2.7 million for the last series to $2.1 million, it bumped up the number of tournaments nearly 40 percent.
The series includes eight packed days of tournaments between July 29 and August 6. The 171-game schedule includes new options like Pot Limit Omaha events, and nightly hyper-turbo events, with an increased number of mid-range and high-buy-in options.
To promote the series, PartyPoker launched three campaigns, each designed to appeal to a different segment. To draw new players, the site is running a social media prize giveaway that redirects players to log into their accounts for a chance to win half of a tournament entry ticket.
To lure casual players already on the site, PartyPoker is running a “cash game happy hour” on the weekends. For the dedicated crowd, the platform promises a free prize draw to players who enter at least 10 events.
